In Episode 3 of Body Stories, I have the pleasure of talking with my good friend and voice teacher Andrew Byrne!
Andrew Byrne is a singing teacher and author of #1 best-seller The Singing Athlete: Brain-Based Training for Your Voice. Andrew’s students have been seen in over 80 Broadway shows.
This conversation was so much fun. Andrew is one of those teachers who practices what he preaches and is always learning more about himself, the brain & body, and his craft.
He shares his stories about:
How his entrance into this world (literally his birth) was not an easy one, how it affected his body and singing, and what he did about it.
Having an inguinal hernia repair around 4 years old and how that related to his performance anxiety in college.
Experiencing random swelling in his tongue after a concussion and how he was able to heal this for good.
The importance of interoception and being a high level performer.
And more!
More about Andrew and contact info:

In 2016, he was appointed by the U.S. State Department as the first Arts Envoy to the nation of Belarus, where he led the inaugural Russian-language production of the Pulitzer-Prize-winning Next to Normal.
Other international teaching assigments have taken him to the UK, Singapore, Switzerland, Denmark, France, China, and five times to Australia (Victorian College of the Arts).
In North America, Andrew has enjoyed four teaching residencies in Canada (including The Banff Centre) and served as guest faculty for the University of Michigan musical theatre department. He has also been a guest clinician with organizations such at the Tanglewood Institute, Cornell University, and Ithaca College.
As a songwriter, Andrew’s work has been seen in feature films, and his youtube channel has over a million views. Artists such as Leslie Kritzer, Laura Bell Bundy and Kerry Butler have sung his arrangements in concert. His parody of Heisler and Goldrich’s “Taylor the Latte Boy” is his greatest hit.
